Speeding taxi man 4 times over limit

A DRIVER of a minibus taxi caught speeding yesterday was four times over the legal alcohol limit.

Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said traffic officers pulled the man over on the N2 at Tongaat River bridge. “The driver was travelling from Durban to Nkandla. He was caught doing a speed of 174 km/h. He was arrested on the scene. There were passengers in the taxi,” said Mngomezulu.

The legal breath alcohol limit for drivers is 0,24mg per 100 ml. The suspect’s reading was 1,13mg. He will appear before the Tongaat Magistrate’s Court today and face charges of drunk driving, speeding and reckless and negligent driving.
