ST ANNE’S College matric pupil Naledi Majola is one of the finalists for the 2013 Arts and Culture Trust (ACT), Dalro and Nedbank Performing Arts scholarship competition.

Majola will be competing against Capetonians Arlin Bantam, Sinead Donnelly and Michaela Moses, Sibusiso Mxosana from the Eastern Cape and Johannesburg-based Kamogelo Nche for the chance to win one of three performing arts scholarships, with a combined value of R315 000.

Naledi, who takes drama as a subject and has been performing in school productions for the past four years, said she was inspired to audition in Durban for the scholarship by her sister.

“It was such an incredible opportunity, so I just went for it,” she said, adding that she was hoping to study for a Bachelor in Live Performance at Afda in Cape Town.

While at St Anne’s, she has performed in the productions Chicago, Lysistrata and 2013’s Edge of Glory.

Naledi is also a passionate musician who plays the piano, is a member of the school choir, the chamber choir and the jazz band.

Naledi, who lives in Umhlanga and is a boarder at the Hilton school, now has to prepare for the finals to be held at the University of Johannesburg in September.

The six finalists will be showcasing their acting, dancing and singing abilities to a live audience and a panel of judges from the performing arts industry.
