St Charles defeat Glenwood and enter semi-finals runners up as Westville, College top their pools

2011-02-04 00:00

UNFORTUNATELY the results of the St Charles-Glenwood match were not printed yesterday, but in a better display by the Maritzburg lads, Glenwood was defeated by 41 runs.

This gave St Charles a bonus point which tied them at the top of the pool with Westville.

Westville, as they beat St Charles in the pool match, will top the pool, and the Saints go into the semis as runners up.

In Wednesday’s match, Maritzburg College defeated Michaelhouse in a high-scoring game.

The Balgowan side won the toss and made a creditable 215 for five in the 40 overs.

Andrew Stephens anchored the innings, scoring 66 in 99 balls with Greg Oldfield (52 in 56) and Barry Forrester-Smith (28 not out in 28) adding the necessary impetus.

College were largely untroubled by the Michaelhouse bowlers, reaching the target in the 35th over for the loss of one wicket.

Kewan Harries scored a magnificent 107 not out in 109 balls and Graeth Orr 75 in 83 balls. They added an unbroken 177 for the second wicket in 175 balls.

This win puts College at the top of the pool and sets up a semi-final against St Charles next Wednesday.

This afternoon and evening the Primary and Senior Schools Challenge finals will be played.

The Primary Challenge will be between Merchiston, who beat Pelham, and Laddsworth, who beat St Charles Prep.
