St Charles need to score well against College

MARITZBURG College and Kearsney will go into their semi-final matches of the Sunfoil Night League as favourites to contest the final on Wednesday.

College has had the most success in this competition since its inception 18 years ago. They have won it nine times and are the present holders of the trophy.

This afternoon it is an all Maritzburg semi-final as College come up against St Charles and tomorrow afternoon Kearsney will be playing Westville for a place in the final.

Theses matches have been brought forward one day as College fly to Stellenbosch on Thursday to play in the Standard Bank School’s Pro20 finals.

College and St Charles have played once and that was a T20 game, which College won comfortably. However since then the College batting has not been up to their usual standard, but the bowlers have still come to the fore, so that the opposition has been bowled out for a lower score.

St Charles will fancy their chances but they need to score well against the competent College bowling attack.

Kearsney has beaten Westville in a 50-over game and this will give them confidence to go through to Wednesday’s final. Of course Westville could surprise, particularly as they have the wily Doug Watson in charge.

The sides that can absorb the pressure of the semi-finals will most likely meet in the final on Wednesday evening.
