St Charles up their game and beat College

2011-10-18 00:00

A LARGE number of spectators, with many youngsters from other schools in the area, packed the St Charles Indoor Centre for their game against Maritzburg College on Friday afternoon.

The stayers from both schools provided plenty of skill as they pitted themselves against one another.

The first two quarters saw the hosts romp away scoring twice as many baskets as their visitors.

St Charles led by 32 points to 17 at the change of ends. With the comfortable cushion, coach Darren Holcombe had the experienced players sit out while the new and inexperienced players had a run.

Inevitably the scores narrowed, which got the Maritzburg College spectators very excited as their inventive, lively and energetic war cries, along with those of the hosts, raised the roof of the centre.

Saints upped their game again and in the final quarter they consolidated to win 64-49.

It was a very animated evening as only basketball can be with the game played in a great spirit.
