Stabbing: suspect granted R5?000 bail

2011-04-29 00:00

SHERWIN Cara (21) — who has been charged with the murder of promising cricketer Juran Lorenzo Raman (20) at Café Vacca Matta — was granted R5 000 bail in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s court yesterday.

Cara, represented by advocate Martin Krog, was warned not to communicate with any state witnesses and is to relocate to Gauteng.

Raman was stabbed in the neck while dancing at the nightclub early last month. Cara handed himself over to police a few days later.

The state opposed Cara’s release saying the charge is a serious one, that there is concern for the safety of witnesses and that police are investigating whether he is linked to other offences.

The hearing was adjourned toMay 26.
