DESPITE recent calls from the provincial government and the Msunduzi Municpality to rally city residents to help clean the City of Choice, Harry Gwala Stadium was still a mess yesterday afternoon following a provincial prayer meeting for peace during the World Cup. The event, held on Sunday, was led by Premier Zweli Mkhize.

Msunduzi director of parks and recreation Steven Naick said they had planned to collect the rubbish, but were called to an emergency at Jika Joe informal settlement. They had to clear debris after a number of shacks burnt down.

He said the rubbish would be cleared by yesterday evening.
