Staff return, Tatham Art Gallery open

2008-06-12 00:00

The Tatham Art Gallery re-opened yesterday at about 12.30 pm after the staff met with the process manager for community services and social equity, Mandla Zuma, and it was agreed that another meeting be held on Tuesday to resolve their grievances.

Gallery director Brendan Bell said the gallery will open in normal hours, and the coffee shop will be open today.

He said that Zuma said that he was busy, which is why he missed a previous meeting, adding that this was not a satisfactory explanation.

Zuma said the main issue is that the security staff at the gallery want to be integrated into the municipal security system.

“I received their grievances and concerns. I will take the matter forward from here where we will look at the options of integrating the gallery guards.

“I would like to apologise to the public for any inconvenience caused during the closure of the gallery,” said Zuma.

The gallery was closed on Wednesday afternoon after the guards stopped work.
