Standard beat Varsity in only game

2014-10-30 00:00

THE weather gods were again unkind to Premier League cricketers in KZN Inland, but at least one game was played.

The Maritzburg Cricket Association Premier T20 competition saw Varsity clock up 144 for three in their 20 overs on Sunday morning at the Varsity Oval with Sohail Ghanie getting 52 and Faheem Sulieman 51.

In reply, Standard scored 145 for seven to win with one over to spare, the consistent Gareth Rall hitting 48 and Garth Borain 21 not out. The ever-consistent Lucky Dladla picked up two wickets for 13 runs.

Standard’s three-wicket win cements top spot on the log with a host of other teams close behind.

All the other matches were abandoned due to unplayable weather conditions.

This Sunday the MCA Premier T20 matches see Wanderers Club hosting Varsity versus Zingari at 9 am and Cosmos versus Standard at 1 pm while at Carter High, Young Natalians take on Masibemunye at 9 am and then Lancashire meet Maritzburg Cricket Club at 1 pm.
