Standard down Zingari to stay on top

2015-01-29 00:00

STANDARD continued their dominance of the MCA Premier League T20 competition at the weekend, beating Zingari at Collegians by 60 runs to remain firmly on top of the standings.

With all the sides having played six matches, Standard remains undefeated and has a handy five-point advantage over Varsity CC, who secured the points with a 53-run win against Lancashire, also playing at Collegians.

With one round remaining in the competition, it looks as though Standard should have everything sewn up and the fight will be on for the minor placings.

Zingari are third on 18 points, with Cosmos on 14 points.

The weekend’s matches saw some consistent scoring without any domination from the batsmen. KZN Inland stalwart Kyle Nipper registered the highest score of the round with 68 for Standard, while plenty of batsmen got starts and were unable to kick on to anything substantial.

If anything, the bowlers held sway this time around with some remarkable figures being recorded, considering this is T20 smash and hit cricket.
