IN the only Midlands Premier League Cricket game on the weekend, Standard defeated the Northern Combined team by a massive 152 runs.

The game, which was played at Dundee, was the last for 2013. The league will go into recess until January 19.

Batting first, Standard played well and ended up making a score of 282 in 33 overs, with Gareth Gardener racking up a century (113) and Joel Barron a half century (64).

Northern Combined’s innings was swift and they were bowled out for 130 in the 34th over. For Standard, Garth Borain contributed with figures of 3/6 and Gareth Rall took three wickets for just 11 runs.

Standard won that game by 152 runs.

The young Natalians’ fixture against Zingari, which was meant to be played at Carter High School, was abandoned due to unplayable conditions, while Lancashire’s game against Masibemunye was also called off without a ball being bowled.

As from January 26 next year, a KZN Inland Cricket Union Schools Combined team will compete in the second half of the season as a replacement for Midlands.
