Standard side continue their league dominance

2014-02-06 00:00

UNDEFEATED Standard Cricket Club continued with their romp at the top of the KZN Inland Premier Cricket League with a win over the KZNICU Schools Combined XI on Saturday.

Good batting performances from Jaryd Eddy (78) and Bryce Tullis (68) were not enough for the school boys as they were eventually bowled out for 196 from 46.4 overs.

Marcel Frenzel, with bowling figures of 4-12, and Ryan Stanbury, who took three wickets for 51, were Standard’s best bowlers on the day.

In their response, it took Standard 43.1 overs to reach the target of 197, and they did it having lost just five wickets with Ryan Sclanders scoring 88, and Gareth Rall contributing with a score of 55. Standard ended up winning that game by five wickets.

Zingari’s Lyndon Brown was the star as they beat Lancashire by a massive 145 runs. Brown scored 44 as Zingari put on a total of 241/9 in their 50 overs.

As they defended the target they set Lancashire, Brown finished with a return of 3-11 as they bowled them out for 102 in just 26.3 overs. Zingari’s other star with the ball was Jarrod Smith with figures of 5-30.

In the game between Masibemunye and Varsity, the students did their best to triumph and keep up with Standard at the top of the log.

Having bowled Masibemunye for 134, they came back with 137/6 in 41 overs to win the game by four wickets.

The game between Young Natalians and Northern Combined was abandoned due to a wet pitch.
