Stanger’s top cop to be probed

2014-03-19 00:00

THE KwaDukuza SAPS cluster commander has been tasked to probe a number of allegations made by staff against the Stanger SAPS station commander.

KwaDukuza Cluster commander Brigadier Derek Captain-Hastibeer said he had been asked by the provincial office to conduct an investigation into the KwaDukuza station commander Brigadier Bongiwe Sithole.

“I have been tasked with the matter for further investigation,” said Captain-Hasitbeer.

He said he could not provide any further detail as it was an internal matter.

But The Witness has learnt that Sithole is being investigated based on her performance at the station and on the strength of several complaints lodged by officers based in Stanger.

Among the complaints is Sithole’s alleged regular absenteeism from the station, poor morale among staff, her management style and alleged disregard of policy and procedure.

Captain-Hastibeer is Sithole’s direct superior and according to line function, is mandated to evaluate the claims made to validate whether they hold any merit of not.

SAPS provincial spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said while the provincial office is not involved in the inquiry, it is normal for such investigations to take place.

“It could relate to disputes over salaries, be staff-related, be related to the provisions of the employment contract or conflict management but it does not necessarily mean there are very serious issues under discussion,” said Naicker.
