Stash of drugs seized in Hopewell

2015-04-23 00:00

TWO people have been arrested and a large stash of drugs recovered after a tip-off to police yesterday.

The Pietermaritzburg Public Order Police (POP) Task Team arrested two suspects, aged 30 and 31 for allegedly dealing in drugs in Hopewell, Thornville.

Police said they searched the house in Hopewell and found 1 000 Mandrax tablets, 1 700 Ecstasy tablets, 2 200 straws of Whoonga and six parcels of heroin.

The total value of the drugs is over R400 000.

“It is suspected that the drug dealers are supplying drugs as far afield as Pietermaritzburg and Estcourt.” The two suspects will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of dealing in drugs.

The KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended the members for the speedy arrest of the suspects and recovery of the drugs. “Drug dealers are destroying our communities and crippling the lives of our youth by supplying them with dangerous drugs. We will do everything in our power to remove them from society and lock them up in jail,” said General Ngobeni.
