A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy who was seriously injured at a soccer field in Lenham Drive, Phoenix, at the weekend is recovering in Durban’s Mahatma Gandhi Hospital.

Paramedics said the incident happened when the boy was playing a game with friends and fell onto a rod.

Netcare911 paramedics and the eThekwini fire department arrived at the scene to find the boy with the steel rod pierced through his foot. Firemen cut the rod, which entered under the child’s foot and exited through the ankle, said spokesperson Chris Botha.

The boy was then stabilised and taken to hospital. —
