Still no date set for start of new radio station

2011-08-01 00:00

THE long awaited Pietermaritzburg community radio station, Capital Radio 104 will be going live soon but Capital Radio MD Jerry Jones said he is not sure exactly when that will be.

Jones previously told the media that “he is hoping that they will go live in the first week of August”.

“We’re still not fully ready because we’re still busy with the strategic radio workshops with the East Coast Radio (ECR) management team,” Jones said.

The Capital Radio members are still sharpening their skills and it might take a while before the crew is fully ready.

“We already have the equipment, but we can’t go on air not prepared.

“We are going to launch the station in September and we’re already spoken to Selimathunzi and Ses’khona to come cover the event,” Jones said.

The ECR management team, headed by the chief executive officer Trish Taylor has taken the community radio under their wing.

“The radio business is complex and continues to evolve as the result of changing consumer behaviour.

“It’s a daunting task starting a brand-new station, and we felt that if we assist Capital Radio by sharing our experience and some useful strategic tools, it would give them the right start on their path of success,” Taylor added.

Jones told The Witness that he is “very happy” that ECR are on board to assist them.

“We already have advertisers. We want to make sure that when finally we do broadcast we’ll be serving the people with a well-prepared meal,” he concluded.
