2009-12-07 00:00

KWAZULU-NATAL Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC, Nomusa Dube, and other MEC’s visited Jozini and surrounding areas yesterday following Saturday’s storm that left hundreds of people homeless and injured.

The Provincial Disaster Management officials with the Umkhanyakude District Municipal officials assessed the extent of the devastation and provided relief stock to the victims — in the form of food, blankets and temporary shelter.

The hailstorm, accompanied by heavy winds, hit various parts of Jozini. Some parts of Pongola were also affected.

Saturday’s storm follows storms that hit Amajuba District, Bulwer Ugu, Ethekwini and Ilembe District municipal areas recently.

Rebuilding the infrastructure damaged by the storms is expected to cost an estimated R349 million.
