Straeuli hasn’t signed deal with Lions yet

2013-10-17 00:00

SHARKS commercial manager Rudolf Straeuli says reports that he is to leave Durban to join the Golden Lions are premature.

Straeuli told The Witness yesterday that he had yet to decide on his future and was considering “two approaches”.

“I certainly haven’t signed any contract and I’m still considering my options.”

He said that at the moment his attention was focused on the Currie Cup “and helping the Sharks regain the title”.

Straeuli has been involved with the Sharks for more than a decade and, as commercial manager, has been responsible for contracting players. He is contracted to the Sharks until the end of next year but it is believed that CEO John Smit has agreed to an early release.

Straeuli, who played in the 1995 World Cup final and later coached the Springboks, is expected to make an announcement on his future next week.

It seems certain, however, that he will be following on the heels of former CEO Brian van Zyl, head coach John Plumtree and his assistants Grant Bashford and Hugh Reece-Edwards, and leaving the Sharks.
