Strong words: New KZN ANCYL

2010-06-07 00:00

THE newly elected ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in KwaZulu-Natal has threatened to mobilise all South Africans to boycott Fifa World Cup concerts if there is not 80% participation by local artists.

The league also had strong words for Cosatu secretary-general Zwelinzima Vavi, saying he belongs to the “museum of shame”, a reference to the spat involving calls from within the ANC for Vavi to be disciplined for public criticism of the party.

In a statement issued after its first meeting, the provincial ANCYL said: “Vavi must stop threatening the revolution that every time ther [sic] are different views then it means the alliance will split (as the youth league we are unshaken by his utterances.) The ANC as the leader of the [tripartite] alliance must take a tough stance in promoting the culutre [sic] of engagning [sic] internally with alliance partners.”
