Strongman: Voortrekker school event

2012-09-14 00:00

THE Voortrekker High School Strongman Challenge will be held at the school from noon tomorrow.

In the first event of its kind in Pietermaritzburg, the day will be split up into five categories: weight hold, bakkie pull, tyre plips, deadlifts and an obstacle course.

Members of the public are urged to attend and the SA vs NZ rugby match will be shown on the big screen.

Former world strongman champion Phil Niemand will be the special guest referee for the day.

“We are very excited about it and we would love people to join us,” said Voortrekker sport director Shawn van Rensburg.

“From next year, we want to open the competition to other schools and get Strongman on the map in Pietermaritzburg.”
