Sugar Daddy: It’s not about money

2012-11-17 00:00

FORGET the stereotypical old “sugar daddy”, who spoils his partner with gifts; the modern woman wants a man who will view her as an equal.

And his wealth comes last on her list of priorities.

This is according to research done by a recently launched online dating service, which surveyed about 3 000 single South African women aged 18 years and older in an online poll.

The results? Women want career-driven and successful men.

The new desirable “sugar daddy” is a man in his 30s, 40s or 50s, who is motivated and passionate about his career.

“It is no longer just about money. Women are becoming more independent and want someone they can do things together with,” said Janine Lloyd, the site’s spokesperson in South Africa. launched in the United Kingdom earlier this year. The site received over 500 enquiries from SA men and women, wanting to know when the site would be launched in SA.

The company then conducted an online survey of single women in SA, and found their preferences were very similar to those of their UK sisters.

The results showed that the majority of women want men who are six to 15 years older than them, while a small percentage wants a man who is 16 to 20 years older.

The survey found that the women’s top priority is a man with a sense of humour.

This is followed by priorities including a great job, good hygiene and ability in bed, with the last of the top five being money.

How a man looks does not seem to matter, as fewer than one in three women listed “physical appearance” in their top five priorities.
