Surprise ‘reality birthday’

DURBAN businesswoman and socialite Sorisha Naidoo celebrated her 38th birthday in sheer elegance at the luxurious Umhlanga Oyster Box Hotel last night.

The surprise party, organised by her husband Vivian Reddy, was only for Naidoo’s 150 closest friends and family.

Reddy surprised his wife by inviting some of the cast members of the Real Housewives of Johannesburg reality show, which is expected to air later this year.

The party, which is going to be part of the reality show, was filmed in the Pearl Room, which costs R20 000 to rent during weekends.

Guests were serenaded by Njabulo Mzuza, who sang renditions of her favourite artist Canadian singer Michel Buble’s melodies.

Sorisha’s close friend ANC stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela sent a moving message wishing her happy birthday and apologising for not attending due to medical reasons.

“Many happy returns my darling. You deserve every bit of happiness coming your way. You have no idea how grateful I am to the Lord Almighty for blessing me with you as my third daughter,” said Madikizela-Mandela in a video that was screened during the party.

Madikizela-Mandela thanked the couple for being her pillar of strength during her time of need saying she had never “come across people with so much compassion in her life”.

The mother of two was also surprised by her pug, Max, who strolled in wearing a black tailor-made tuxedo and joined the birthday girl on the main table.

Naidoo donated R10 000 each to the Durban SPCA and God’s Warehouse.

Yesterday morning Naidoo was woken up by her two children, Saihil (6) and Kalina (4), who presented her with homemade gifts.

Her hubby also spoiled her with a new pair of Jimmy Choo heels, which were purchased in London during his last trip. He also gave her a diamond bracelet.

For her husband’s 60th birthday celebration last year, Naidoo bought her husband a R390 000 Franck Muller Las Vegas watch, complete with roulette wheel.

After being pampered by her family, she had breakfast with her staff at her Umhlanga Laser & Aesthetic Clinic. For lunch she spent time organising a meal for pupils at Seaview Primary School where she has a feeding scheme.

The party started quietly last night as the guests prepared to surprise their friend. The room was elegantly decorated with pink and white flowers while the cake was in the shape of the Chanel bag with one candle on it.

Reddy said, “We celebrated one of the most caring people I know. She always thinks about the less fortunate, even on her birthday.”

In lieu of gifts, Naidoo requested that her guests make a donation to the charities she supports, Durban SPCA and God’s Warehouse.
