IPSOS Markinor has revealed that the ruling party will win the local government elections following its survey conducted last month.

The survey found that although support for the ANC dwindled in the 2009 general election, it remains the strongest party.

About 3 375 potential voters were interviewed and it was found that the party commands the support of about 58,9% registered voters.

It is followed by the Democratic Alliance with 19,3%.

The Congress of the People is expected to score 1,2%, which is even less than the IFP’s 2,1%.

There are 15 political parties participating in the elections. The African Muslim Party and United Christian Democratic Party are expected to be the worst performers as they each have the support of 0,1% voters or less .

An estimated 24,123 million people are expected to queue at polling stations across the country to vote tomorrow.
