'Survivor': Durban's Vally booted

2011-03-19 00:00

TWENTY-FIVE-year-old make-up artist Tasleem Vally from Durban, who describes herself as “an unconventional Muslim woman”, has been voted off M-Net’s Survivor South Africa: Maldives.

The youngest castaway in the alpha-male driven Raituhn tribe, as well as one of the physically weakest members at the Survivor challenges, Vally has had a target on her back since the “celebs” and “plebs” merged into two tribes a few weeks ago.

After their first challenge as a tribe, Raituhn and their rival tribe both had to pick the member they regarded as the most unlikely person to survive on a desolate island. Vally was Raituhn’s choice, while another Durbanite, Alison de Chazal, was selected by her tribe Goma.

Vally’s departure means there are three Durbanites remaining — mother of five, De Chazal, who, at 53, is the oldest contestant; 30-year-old Malusi Mbambo, a business development consultant; and Tejan Pillay, a 32-year-old engineer and cage fighter.

• Watch Survivor South Africa: Maldives on M-Net on Thursdays at 7.30 pm.
