Suspected Toti robbers arrested

TWO men suspected of robbery in Amanzimtoti were arrested between Friday and yesterday morning.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said the two men, aged 34 and 35, staked out a house in Doonside, Amanzimtoti.

“As the owner (66) opened the gate to go out for her morning jog, they pounced on her and forced her back inside the house.

“Her husband, who was in the house, confronted the suspects, but he was also overpowered and tied by the suspects,” said Naicker.

He said the robbers ransacked the house and removed three laptops, a television set, cellphones, jewellery, a PC and a music system.

They loaded the stolen good into the couple’s car and fled the scene. The car was found abandoned in “C” section in kwaMakhutha.

A suspect was arrested on Warner Beach.

“During his arrest, the suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm. After an intensive investigation in the early hours of Monday, a second suspect was arrested in kwaMakhutha.

“He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as the stolen laptops, jewellery and music system,” said Naicker.

Both suspects are due to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court to face charges of house robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and being in possession of property suspected to be stolen.
