Suspended: four principals

FOUR principals from uMgungundlovu District schools were suspended from their duties for alleged misconduct, according to the KwaZulu-Natal Education Department.

Three of the principals, from Pietermaritzburg, were suspended for alleged mismanagement of funds and one was suspended for allegedly inciting pupils and inflating marks.

Officials were briefing the education committee at the KZN legislature yesterday.

Ten department employees have been suspended in KZN in 46 cases reported since March.

These cases range from sexual abuse of pupils and corporal punishment to inflating pupil enrolment numbers.

A security guard from a school in the Ilembe District was found to have illegally connected electricity.

Two clerks at the examination administration directorate were reported to have been under the influence of alcohol while on duty in May.

According to the department, there are two broad categories of misconduct relating to “less serious” and “serious” matters.
