Sweet: 8 nabbed for Sugar heist

POLICE have arrested eight suspects and recovered 34 tons of sugar, which was stolen after a a truck was hijacked on Durban’s South Coast Road last Friday.

After being hijacked the truck driver and his crew were held hostage until Saturday morning.

After their escape they reported the matter to the Montclair police station. On Wednesday the investigating task team received information that the truck was spotted passing through the Midlands on the N3.

The police stopped the truck, which was empty and driven by a Zimbabwean national who was headed to Zimbabwea with plans to sell the truck, worth close to R2 million.

The seven foreigners linked to the case have been arrested in Durban. The sugar was found in Clairwood.
