Swing into Spring: Lifeline and Rape Crisis to put on dinner and dance

2011-09-22 00:00

LIFELINE and Rape Crisis are hosting a dinner and dance themed Swing into Spring at the Fern Hill Hotel on September 30.

The evening promises to be “flamboyant, colourful and fun”, said Linda Hofmeyr, resource mobilisation manager.

“Rape and gender-based violence are a serious issue,” Hofmeyr said.

Lifeline and Rape Crisis, after amalgamating in 1998, have been dedicated to providing free services to men, women and children who are victims of rape and gender-based violence.

Rape Crisis has established rape counsellors at several government hospitals and works closely with Thuthuzela Care Centre at Edendale Hospital.

The care centre provides a range of services for victims, including medical treatment, legal advice and law enforcement.

The event is aimed at raising awareness because LifeLine and Rape Crisis need the buy-in and support of communities in order to continue offering these services.

Entertaining guests for the night are local band The Hairy Legged Lentil Eaters, whose fiddler, Mark Schonau, has been a counsellor at LifeLine for many years.

The evening is a sixties dress-up theme for those who want to be adventurous, and starts promptly at 6.30 pm.

An American auction for a weekend away and several other prizes are up for grabs.

Tickets are R200 per person. To book a spot at the event or be a possible sponsor, call Linda Hofmeyr at 033 342 4447 or resourcemx@lifeonline.co.za.
