Take a musical trip through time

2011-05-10 00:00

ALEXANDRA High School is offering you the chance to take a musical trip through time in its new show, Musical Revue, which runs in the school hall from today to May 14.

The show takes a look at music through the ages, from the fifites to today, and how it has evolved. The pupils also perform dance routines from different eras while decked out in fashion appropriate for each decade.

Lead vocals in Music Revue are taken by Nozipho Mbanjwa, Sane Khoza, Sane Qoma, Vuyelwa Mbimbi, Stabile Ndunge and Nasiphi Ngewu.

The programme includes an Aretha Franklin medley, music from Ray Charles, ABBA, the Bee Gees, Elton John, and a chance to see the work that Alexandra High School will be presenting at this year’s school dance extravaganza, Funk.

I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak at two of the numbers — Special Star (Mango Groove) and Pata Pata (Miriam Makeba) — when I visited the school, and was blown away by the dance moves and vocal talent.

Showtimes are 3.30 pm today and May 13, and 7 pm on May 11, 12 and 14. Tickets are R25. To book phone Mrs Watson at 033 394 8252.

• Funk 2011 takes place at Hilton College at 7.30 pm on May 21, 23, 24 and 25. Tickets are R46 at 033 383  0126.
