Talent search: Youth invited to empowerment holiday

2010-06-29 00:00

YOUNG people from around Pietermaritzburg are invited to take part in a youth empowerment holiday programme and talent search that will take place at the Winston Churchill Theatre until July 9.

The programme is a joint initiative between the Msunduzi Municipality’s youth advisory desk and Morefire Talent Search Production.

John Singh of the youth advisory desk said: “Seeing that there are no programmes established for the youth during the course of the World Cup, we wanted to accommodate them. The programme runs daily from 10 am to 3 pm with empowerment sessions, and later on we have auditions. We invite speakers from various departments and institutions to address the youth on issues such as human trafficking.”

The programme offers music, dance, drama, poetry, career and business advice and personal development coaching.

Morefire CEO Brian Shoarane said that while there is a programme, the youth need all the help they can get as there is no budget. “Whether in the form of food, transport for the children or skills, we will welcome that because we want to empower, educate and entertain our children during holidays,” he said.

Singh urged parents to allow their children to take part in the programme instead of having them sit idly at home.

Youngsters who want to register for auditions should visit the Youth Advisory Centre next to the Tatham Art Gallery, or contact Shoarane at 084 718 2923.
