Taxi: Families of victims picket driver’s hearing

2011-09-02 00:00

TAXI driver Themba Mazibuko (37) was granted R15 000 bail after being charged with 10 counts of murder for the deaths of 10 people, including a three-year-old child, in an accident between Kokstad and Franklin last month.

Mazibuko is said to have made a U-turn at a dangerous place, causing a bus to hit his taxi.

Families of the dead picketed and distributed pamphlets to local drivers outside the court yesterday encouraging them to obey road rules.

Mazibuko was instructed not to interfere with the state witnesses and to report at the Orlando East police station in Soweto.

The court heard that Mazibuko does not have a professional driver’s permit (PrDP).

The case was adjourned to October 12. — WR.
