Tea party: Under the plane trees

2008-07-20 00:00

The Pietermaritzburg Botanical Gardens hosted two big events yesterday, a tea party in the Plane Tree Avenue to celebrate its centenary and the Hillside Concert, featuring English folk group Magna Carta and a host of Pietermaritzburg and KZN performers.

The 420 guests at the tea party brought flowers, their best china and delicious eats and enjoyed music provided by the Girls’ High Brass Band.

The event was organised by the Botanical Society, supported by The Witness, and the funds raised went to the Cancer Society of SA (Cansa).

Zodwa Seoka, regional manager of Cansa PMB, said: ‘We are very appreciative of the fact that the money will go towards the campaign as it will be used for health education programmes, early detection programmes and patient care.’
