A PIETERMARITZBURG teacher died in an accident yesterday morning while on his way to work at Ofafa High School in Ixopo.

Sithembiso Mayekiso (35) died when his car left the road and crashed along the R56 near Richmond.

His brother Luthando told The Witness that the family was originally from Mzimkhulu. His brother bought a house and settled in Panorama, Pietermaritzburg.

“He also bought a car in the last three months. He was travelling to his school daily. He was a Geography teacher with one child,” said Luthando.

According to ER24 spokesperson Luyanda Majija, Mayekiso was found dead in his mangled vehicle.

“He succumbed to possible head injuries. A driver who witnessed the collision and notified ER24 about it said the vehicle veered off the road and rolled down a steep embankment. The vehicle was found approximately 15 metres from the road and the extremity of its damage suggests it rolled several times,” said Majija.

He said firemen had used the jaws of life to remove the body from the car.
