Team of choice to discipline Madondo

2012-07-27 00:00

WHILE Maritzburg United are on a pre-season tour in Johannesburg, central midfielder Chillies Madondo has stayed at home.

The 22-year-old playmaker is facing internal disciplinary action by the Team of Choice after he voiced his intentions to leave Pietermaritzburg and stopped training about two weeks ago.

Madondo’s contract with the club expires in 2015, and chairperson Farouk Kadodia could not say yesterday whether Madondo would be a part of coach Ernst Middendorp’s squad when the new Premier Soccer League (PSL) season gets under way next month.

“We are in the process of completing an internal disciplinary hearing and I can not comment on anything until that process has been completed,” Kadodia told The Witness.

“Chillies came to us out of the blue and said that he would like to move on to another club,” he explained.

While Kadodia acknowledged Madondo’s ability and stated that he was part of the plans for the new season, he was critical of the unprofessional manner in which Madondo had gone about requesting a transfer.

“He is contracted to the club and if he wants to leave he should be training, working hard until clubs take notice of him and make an offer,” said the chairperson.

Kadodia said he had since received a phone call from Madondo, who had told him h intended to return to training.

“We need to be confident that he is in the right frame of mind; we don’t want to break the spirit that is currently in the team,” Kadodia said.

Meanwhile, the club is yet to provide clarity on the future of centre-back Mor Diouf. A decision is expected to be made public before the end of the month.

United start their Premiership campaign with a trip away to the newly promoted University of Pretoria.
