Tech battle of the fittest

2013-06-15 00:00

THIS week saw the biggest electronics giants flaunting their latest consumer products at the Electronics Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.

Arguably two of the biggest rivals to exhibit at the event were the Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4, which should reach South African in time for the Christmas rush, or early in 2014. A decade ago, consoles worked on the principle that a user inserted a disc to enjoy a game. With the launch of these two new devices, we have the console evolving into a home-entertainment solution, which can control the television set it is operated from. We decided to see how the two entertainment units stack up against one another.

While Sony seems to be leading the race because of its big selling point, its price, the pricing of the Xbox One includes the Kinect motion controller for the console.

While both consoles have developers working on exclusive games for each, the playing field may be level because of this. Both systems come with amazing graphics that allow the user to see fine details such as cuts, bruises, fine hair and dirt under characters’ nails.

The winner of this contest will only be seen from sales at year-end.
