Teenage wing rushed into Sharks side

THE 19-year-old wing Sean Robinson has been rushed into the Sharks team to face the Stormers in the Super Rugby derby at Newlands on Saturday evening.

Robinson played for SA Schools in 2011 and last year he was in the Sharks U19 team. He scored the match-winning try for the Sharks XV in the Vodacom Cup match against SWD in George on the weekend.

“Sean is a youngster in his second year at the Sharks Academy and looks to have all the attributes of being a really good footballer,” said head coach John Plumtree.

“It’s a great opportunity for him and we’ve placed no pressure on him to have a big game. We want him to go out and enjoy the experience. But we are hoping he has a good game and that he plays many more games for the Sharks.”

Robinson takes over from Odwa Ndungane who is recovering well from a hamstring change and will play off the bench.

Flank Jacques Botes (fractured arm) is replaced by Ryan Kankowski, but the good news is that Jean Deysel will be on the bench.

“Losing Jacques [Botes] with the form that he was in is a big blow for us,” said Plumtree, “but we’re very happy to have [Deysel] coming back in. He was playing really good rugby before he was injured and his return is a timely boost for us.

“Against the Stormers you need that physicality and he’ll come off the bench and provide that.”

The Stormers have made three changes to their line-up. Gary van Aswegen takes over from the injured Elton Jantjies at flyhalf, while centre Damian de Allende will start on the wing with Joe Pietersen moving to fullback in place of Jaco Taute (torn ligaments).

Scrumhalf Nic Groom has been dropped for Dewaldt Duvenage.

Stormers head coach Allister Coetzee underlined the importance of the game. “We are under no illusions. The Sharks are an incredibly good team. It’s vital that we get our campaign back on course with a positive result from the match this weekend.”

Leading South African referee Craig Joubert will handle the game (5.05 pm).
