Teenager pleads guilty to raping toddler

2013-10-17 00:00

A 15-YEAR-OLD boy pleaded guilty in the Pietermaritzburg regional court yesterday to raping a two-year-old girl.

Regional Court magistrate Z. Ngwenya convicted the boy as charged based on a statement that he prepared with the help of his legal aid lawyer, Nitesh Binnessarie.

In it, the boy said he was at the victim’s home on May 25 this year, and was playing with her behind some houses. The boy said he had removed his trousers and raped the child.

“As I did that her mother entered and asked me what I am doing,” he said.

He said the little girl’s mother assaulted him and took him home where she assaulted him again.

The boy added that his actions were intentional and that he’d known that what he was doing was unlawful. He also said he was remorseful and begged the court for mercy when sentencing him.

The case was adjourned to October 31 to obtain pre-sentencing reports before the court decides on a suitable sentence.
