Tents on roads may be banned

THE family who damaged the surface of Havelock Road while erecting a funeral tent on Sunday can expect a repair bill from the municipality soon.

Msunduzi’s acting manager for marketing and communications, Brian Zuma, said the municipality’s roads department investigated the damage caused and found it to be minor.

However, he added, “… erosion through rain can ultimately result in potholes.”

Zuma said the municipal roads department is waiting for repair quotations, which is the usual procedure for incidents of this nature.

But the days of pitching up tents on public roads may be vetoed by the municipality in the future.

Said Zuma: “This matter of putting up tents on roads is receiving attention by the relevant departments.”
