That man raped me!

2011-06-03 00:00

A RAPE victim from Paddock walked in on her assailant inside the Paddock police station on Sunday.

The 24-year-old woman, whose name is withheld, went to the station to report her missing ID book on Sunday morning.

As she was waiting in the charge office she noticed Sibusiso Matshingana (27) sitting with an investigating officer.

She screamed that he had raped her in February.

The woman had reported the rape at the time.

Paddock police spokesperson Sergeant Pumzile Makaula said Matshingana was being interrogated in connection with another rape of an 18-year-old woman.

Makaula said Matshingana is an awaiting trial prisoner who is out on bail.

She said he had been arrested and was due to appear in court on Wednesday.

She could not say what the outcome of the court appearance had been.

“The man was charged with an attempted sexual assault in May 29 and was granted bail to allow for further investigation.

“When he was spotted by the 24-year-old woman he was being interrogated in connection with a different rape case.

“The woman burst into tears. She described Sibusiso as the man who raped her on February 2 in the sugarcane plantation next to the Paddock tea processor.”

Makaula warned women to avoid walking alone in unsafe places such as sugar plantations, reminding them of recent rape and murder incidents in such areas, several of which included serial killer Thozamile Taki.
