The Jobless United

2010-09-02 00:00

THE Premiership first transfer window period closed on Tuesday night, leaving many former full and youth internationals unemployed. Notably, many of the unemployed players are strikers despite the PSL being notorious for its lack of deadly marksmen. LINDA XIMBA names ‘The Witness’ Unemployed XI’s starting line up, the reasons they are out and what prospects lay ahead for them.

1. Nick Grande (AmaZulu)

WHY HE IS OUT: Unclear after his penalty shoot-out heroics against Sundowns that sent AmaZulu to Nedbank Cup final

PROSPECTS: Bright future given his potential.

2. Mokete Tsotetsi (Bloemfontein Celtic)

WHY HE IS OUT: With Celtic set topart with sponsors Vodacom, theyhave embarked on cutting salary bills. His erratic displays are not helpingmatters.

PROSPECTS: Gloomy unless clubs are beset with injuries to defenders.

3. Tshepo Mashishi (Black Aces)

WHY HE IS OUT: Age factor could be the reason.

PROSPECTS: Given his dedication and professionalism may land a contract.

4. Gordon Gilbert (Moroka Swallows)

WHY HE IS OUT: Has become a journeyman as he struggled to settle in to three teams he has turned out for.

PROSPECT: His erratic showings may work against him.

5. Mlungisi “Peace” Mdluli (Orlando Pirates)

WHY HE’S OUT: Too injury-prone.

PROSPECTS: He plays in an overtraded position.

6. Michael Nkambule (Kaizer Chiefs)

WHY HE’S OUT: Immensely gifted, but perhaps the foreign coaches he’s working with can not play him to his strengths

PROSPECTS: May find employment anywhere for his age permits him.

7. Noah Chivuta (Maritzburg United)

WHY HE’S OUT: Those old legs of the Zambian winger are finding it hard to keep up the magic shown at City Pillars and Bidvest Wits.

PROSPECTS: His experience could be used at modest clubs.

8. Manqoba “Shakes” Ngwenya (Sundowns)

WHY HE’S OUT: For all his talent, laziness is the chief reason he has struggled for game time.

PROSPECTS: Only if he can take his career serious.

10. Richard Rantjie (Black Aces)

WHY HE’S OUT: Showed early promise, but never reached his true potential for reasons unknown.

PROSPECTS: Future looks good given age is still on his side.

9. Lungisani Ndlela (Moroka Swallows)

WHY HE’S OUT: A rare breed, his height poses big problem for defenders when he’s on form, but poor discipline lets him down.

PROSPECTS: Given lack of strikers of his ilk, may land a job soon.

11. Lerato Chabangu (Sundowns)

WHY HE’S OUT: Fast becoming another problem child of Mzansi football. Poor discipline is costing him, period.

PROSPECTS: He’s got talent and may get employment and revive his career if he gets back on the straight and narrow.

Goalkeeper: Kakonje Kalilo (AmaZulu)

Defender: Fabian McCarthy (free agent)

Midfielders: Collins Zimba (Maritzburg Utd), Thembile Kanono (Celtic)

Strikers: Collins Mbesuma (Swallows), Petrus Mahlatsi (free agent), David Radebe, Bradley Ritson, Francis Kombe.
