THREE of South Africa’s best tenors and the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra are among the drawcards at this year’s Coca-Cola KFC Concert in the Park in the Botanic Gardens on Sunday (Fathers’ Day).

Artists performing on the day include tenors, Dewald von Solms, Stefan Louw and Jannie Moolman; Russian cellist, Boris Kerimov; singers Crystal Tryon and Tim Moloi; a group of electric violinists, BraVa; and pupils from Maritzburg College and Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School.

With Russian-born conductor Naum Rousine on the podium, the bumper programme starts at noon with the College boys and PMB Girls’ High girls performing songs from their recent show, Nashville.

Then it’s the turn of the KZNPO to perform Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld (Overture), Waltz from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, Verdi’s La Donna e mobile with the three tenors, Saint-Saens’ Swan — Carnival of Animals, and Puccini’s Nessun Dorma.

The orchestra will be joined by the popular Pietermaritzburg Caledonian Pipe Band to perform Scottish favourites like Flower of Scotland and Scotland the Brave, before Tim Moloi, Crystal Tryon, BraVa and the three tenors take to the stage to perform contemporary pieces such as The Time of our Lives and Kiss from a Rose.

Gates open at 9.30 am. Tickets cost R85 for adults, R75 for pensioners and R35 for children aged between four and 16. To book contact Pearl at 033 342 4512 or call in at the Pietermaritzburg Tourism Offices, entrance 2 Midlands Liberty Mall, next door to Standard Bank.
