They care: Cycling for streetkids

2011-09-14 00:00

SIX Johannesburg residents will be cycling to Durban to raise funds for I Care, a non-profit organisation that tries to find sustainable solutions to the many challenges faced by children living on the streets.

The enthusiastic youth pastor of Wesley Methodist Church in Hayfields, Mike Howell (28), is at the forefront to make sure that about 150 streetkids are taken care of financially and otherwise.

The team will set off from Johannesburg on September 25 and will arrive in Durban on September 28.

The marketing manager of I Care, Jenni-Lyn van Niekerk, told The Witness that the team is hoping to raise at least R10 000 in donations.

“The I Care plea for the street children is ‘don’t give me money, give me a future’ and this is the message the team wishes to create among members of the public,” Van Niekerk said.
