They’ve ditched the trolley for the e-basket

AVID online shopper Cath Jenkin from Musgrave said she started shopping online nine years ago when she was pregnant with her daughter. Since then, she has ditched her shopping trolley for the “e-basket”.

“I chose to switch to online firstly because of the convenience; I don’t have to wait in long queues with other shoppers,” she said. She said the stores she shops online at have marked-down items on a page and she saves between R100 and R200 at a time.

She also said delivery time is within 48 hours and costs about R70.

Jenkin said she has not been scammed because she shops only on well-known sites.

Another online shopper from Pinetown, Abdullah Nakhooda, said he only buys stuff online that cannot be located in South Africa, and spends $50 (R556) a month online. “I usually buy comic books, gaming accessories and novelties that can’t be found in the country,” he said. He said he only shops at stores with security that allows back-tracking.

Pietermaritzburg Mountain Rise resident, Fazila Essa, said she spends at least R6 000 on online shopping every month. “I buy from international online stores because of the variety.”

She said she has been shopping online for three years and has not had a problem with receiving goods. “We get the security verification code where I track my goods so I know if there is a problem, which there hasn’t been,” she said.
