Thieves shoot at cops

2014-04-17 00:00

HOWICK police came under fire yesterday morning when they confronted a gang of suspected thieves.

Captain Lolly Moodley said police were patrolling along Prospect Road at around 4 am when the officers noticed three cars parked on the side of the road. “As soon as the patrol vehicle stopped behind these vehicles, two of the three vehicles started moving in the direction of the Howick CBD. The patrol van then chased the vehicles and, as they approached the Howick main road, the suspects began firing at the police.”

Moodley said two men then started running towards the N3 freeway and the police managed to arrest one of them.

Cases of attempted murder and possession of suspected stolen property were opened.
