Third time lucky

THREE new films open today — Bee Movie and 30 Days of Night at all three complexes, with Hitman also opening at CineCentre where Bhool Bhulaiyaa returns in the Sunday Bollywood slot. Nu Metro also has I Know Who Killed Me.

Bee Movie is directed by Steve Hickner and Simon J. Smith and was written by Jerry Seinfeld and Spike Feresten. Seinfeld also voices the lead role.

Barry B. Benson, a bee who has just graduated from college, is disillusioned at his lone career choice: making honey. On a special trip outside the hive, Barry’s life is saved by Vanessa, a florist in New York city. As their relationship blossoms, he discovers humans actually eat honey, and subsequently decides to sue the human race. Renee Zellweger voices Vanessa and others in the cast are Matthew Broderick, Chris Rock and Kathy Bates.

David Slade directs 30 Days of Night, a vampire horror set in an Alaskan town where, in midwinter, the sun doesn’t rise for 30 days, making it an ideal playground for the undead. With a whole month of uptime, there should be plenty of time for gore and more gore.

Hitman is yet another film that has been developed from a computer game. Xavier Gens directs Timothy Olyphant and Dougray Scott.

Olyphant plays Agent 47, an android who has been educated to become a professional assassin for hire. He is being pursued by Interpol in the person of Dougray Scott. The greatest threat to 47’s survival may be the stirrings of his conscience and the unfamiliar emotions aroused in him by a beautiful girl.

Reviewers overseas have suggested that a computer game is exactly where this violent concept should have stayed.
