Third young South Coaster killed

2011-04-15 00:00

ADDING to the high death toll on the N2 this month, a third twenty-something South Coaster has died in a horrific motor vehicle accident in as many weeks.

Christo Willemse (21), of Umtentweni, was travelling in his blue BMW Z4 on the N2 towards Margate between 8 and 9 pm on Wednesday when he lost control of his vehicle in wet road conditions.

The soft-top convertible overturned and Willemse was flung from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics.

There were no other vehicles involved in the accident. It had been raining heavily earlier in the evening.

Willemse was the son of Mike and Joey Willemse, owners of Remax Hibiscus in Shelly beach.

He had been working for his parents since matriculating at Glenwood High in Durban.

Willemse’s death comes after South Coasters Chad Mckenzie (23) and Jade Lillie (23) were killed in road accidents within a week of each other.

Messages of support were pouring in all of yesterday on Willemse’s Facebook page. His mother, Joey, was clearly shaken.

“Thanks to all his amazing friends, he will be missed. My angel we don’t even know where to start,” she wrote on her son’s profile.

Pumzile Makaula from the Margate SA Police Force said that at this stage what caused the accident is unknown. “An investigation is currently ongoing,” she said.

A date for a memorial service has not yet been decided by members of the family.
