2010-09-09 00:00

THE St Davids Sahara Twenty20 Festival started today in Johannesburg with 14 sides to play four games until Sunday.

A highlight of the festival, now in its fourth year, will be the match at 1 pm tomorrow between Sahara All Stars XI and the Festival XI.

The All Stars will have present SA cricket players, together with those from the past, pitting themselves against a side composed of players from the 14 participating teams.

This game will be televised on SuperSport prior to the first of the Champions T20 League games, when the Mumbai Indians take on the Highveld Lions.

Kearsney, Maritzburg College and St Charles from KZN will join Pretoria BHS, St Albans and Affies from Pretoria, Grey College from Bloemfontein, Rondebosch from Cape Town, St Andrews from Grahamstown, King Edwards, St Stithians, St Johns and hosts St Davids from Johannesburg, and a combined side from the lesser schools in the area, the Kent Park Taverners.

Each team plays four games, with the only trophies being awarded to individuals for batting, bowling and fielding.

Nine of the teams playing in this Festival will also be participating at the Michaelmas Festival at Maritzburg College during the September holidays, thus getting a good chance to study strengths and weaknesses of sides they will be playing in the 50-over format.
