Three killed as taxi hits truck on N2

2011-04-22 00:00

THREE people died yesterday midday when a minibus taxi crashed into a truck on the N2 near Mgeli outside Kokstad.

Among the dead is an eight-month-old.

KZN Department of Transport spokesperson Zihle Mngomezulu said the taxi was headed to Kokstad and all three people died on the scene.

It is alleged that one vehicle was trying to overtake the other.

“The other two who died are a man and a woman.

“We’re still not certain whether the deceased were related or not that’s what we are still trying to establish,” Mngomezulu added.

She also added that the road was congested and there is only one lane open.

The department is urging motorists to take heed while driving to avoid accidents ahead of the Easter weekend.
