Three more held over farm attack

THREE more suspects were arrested yesterday for the attack at Waterford Farm near Richmond, police said yesterday.

Police spokesman Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said further investigations led police to arrest three males aged between 25 and 29.

One was arrested at his home in the Sigcakini area of Richmond and the remaining two in the Indaleni area.

“During the arrests, police recovered a .38 special revolver and clothing. The arrested suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Richmond Magistrate’s Court shortly,” he said.

Yesterday’s arrests bring to five the number of suspects picked up after two attacks on Waterford Farm and Maywood Farm on Sunday night. In the attack at Waterford, Antony and Carol Morris were stabbed and assaulted and their attackers made off with R20 000, three firearms, clothing and cellphones.

At Maywood Farm, Freddy Howard (60) and his wife were asleep in their bedroom when they heard gunshots coming from outside the house. The suspects apparently fired shots at the patio door to gain entry into the house.

The couple immediately locked their bedroom door and contacted the police and the local farm watch security company.

Various household items that were taken from the house during the robbery were found abandoned on the veranda. Several shotgun and .38 expended cartridges and live rounds were found at the scene.
