Three new films hit the circuit

2008-01-04 00:00

THREE films open on the local circuit today. We Own the Night is at Nu Metro and CineCentre, with Aliens vs Predator — Requiem and Jab We Met (Sunday Bollywood film) also at CineCentre. American Gangster comes back to the circuit at Ster Kinekor.

Jab We Met is directed by Imtiaz Ali and stars Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor. It is a romantic comedy, of the city boy meets country girl variety. The young couple meet while travelling on a train — which, after an incident at a country station, leaves them behind.

James Gray directs Joaquin Phoenix, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes and Robert Duvall in We Own the Night. Bobby Green (Phoenix) has turned his back on the family business of being honest policemen. He has changed his last name and runs a shady club, popular with Russian gangsters. However, they are being targeted by Bobby’s brother and father. Reviews suggest this is a competently-made film, even though it follows a well-worn path.

Aliens vs Predator — Requiem is directed by Colin and Greg Strause. Warring alien and predator races descend on the sewers of a small town to continue their intergalactic battle. The predators come from the Predator movie franchise, while the aliens come from the Aliens films, and this is their second outing together, starring Steven Pasquale, Reiko Aylesworth and John Ortiz. For the fans.
